Langues et cultures dans les contextes insulaires du sud-ouest de l'océan Indien : Madagascar et La Réunion

Abstract : Languages and cultures in the south western Indian Ocean insulary contexts : Malagasy and Reunion islands. The aim of this paper was to studies the role of enculturation and language on cognitive strategies used with a test of categorization per forced choice on Young malagasy, reunion and french children. The results highligh intercultural differences. They suggested that the chidren showed a clear preference for encultured strategies. The french children appear to use regularly the taxonomic strategies, whereas malagasy and reunion children showed a preference for diagramatic strategies. The influence of native languages and cultures on strategies used by the children was discussed.
