Le "devoir" de syncrétisme, une illustration des effets psychosociaux du processus de départementalisation de Mayotte

Abstract : As we encounter the psychiatric issues of the people we come into contact with during our clinical psychology practice at Mayotte, a better understanding of the Maori psychosocial context has become absolutely essential for our clinical assessments. As a matter of fact, the uniqueness of the Comoros’ archipelago history led to the question of the different impacts of the departmentalization process on the psychological functions of the inhabitants of Mayotte, as well as the effects on their social ties. The latest study investigates the psychosocial or pathological effects of the “duty” of syncretism in cultural, traditional and western models. The present research deals with two hypotheses. First and foremost, giving meaning to the layout of the social structure by an interpretative procedure would force the citizen to establish a syncretism between the traditional heritages, brought by the elders, and the western models that entail the “I come from” expression and the entire departmentalization process. Secondly, this subjective panorama would accentuate or even determine certain psychiatric distresses. Through this research, we aim to understand how psychologists could play a role in creating what psychiatrist J. Furtos calls the “ecology of the social ties”, in a socially fragile context.
