Prévention et lutte contre l'illettrisme à Maurice...Quand le Ministère monte au créneau

Abstract : Education in Mauritius is compulsory and free for all. However it has never been fair, given a series of factors amongst which private tuition ranks high. But lately the authorities have come up with an « Enhancement Programme » which should gradually make private tuition turn into an obsolète practice. The Mauritius Institute of Education has been called upon to come up with the instructional design for this « Enhancement Programme ». This paper présents the project designed by the French Department of the Mauritius Institute of Education in that context. While it focuses on the issue of enhancing literacy in French, the project at the same time makes a go at introducing a new pedagogical paradigm based on meaningfulness and enjoyment as being at par with technical skills, and on cognitive clarity as well as on différenciation.
