Le Baïram selon Nerval ou la puissance orientale

Abstract : Nerval chooses to end his "Voyage en Orient" by evoking the Muslim feast of the Bairam, which leads him, by distorting the meaning of the ceremony, to highlight Ottoman sexuality. By following the falsely distended threads of ideology and psychoanalysis, this contribution tries to justify such a choice. If it is a question of challenging the orientalist stereotype of a despotic sensuality, violence is nonetheless present through the masked expression of an incestuous fantasy.
