« Des colliers de fleurs pour les hommes… et pour les femmes ! ». L’insertion des femmes dans les nouvelles institutions de Mayotte (1976-2018)

Abstract : The integration of women to the new institutions of the overseas territory was carried out in several stages. Except for a short period during which two Mahoran women exercised a mandate as general councillor, in compensation for past female struggles, women were absent from decision-making bodies for almost thirty years. The shortcomings of the Education system, as well as the effects of the glass ceiling prevailing in institutions, contributed to this situation to a large extent. However, women still managed to remain active in political affairs by intervening in other areas and they gradually acquired political responsibilities within the municipalities. At the start of the 21st century, the resurgence of women in the island’s deliberative assembly and, at the national level, demonstrates the resilience and high expectations that inspire the heirs of the « chatouilleuses ».
