L’épreuve de l’ailleurs : reconsidérer l’identité linguistique et culturelle en contexte de mobilité
Abstract
In the context of Reunion island, the population is faced with a linguistic hierarchy. This
proposal explores, the effects of mobility experience on the linguistic and cultural perceptions
of students from Reunion island who are in mobility situations in France and internationally.
Through qualitative interviews, this proposal explores how mobility influences their
perception and the appreciation of Creole, oscillating between integration into academic
environments dominated by other languages and maintenance of original cultural practices.
This study highlights the tension between aspirations for success and identity anchoring,
revealing how mobility reconfigures students’ linguistic and cultural ties.
