Les chemins de pêcheurs de la côte ouest à l’île de La Réunion : problématique d’accès et valeur commune

Abstract : On Reunion Island west coast, the challenges of access to the coast are often debated. Indeed, the paths access to the beach from national road are experiencing closing dynamics. This tomogenesis induces conflicts between the users of these and the residents at the origin of the encroachments. In addition, these sinful paths are easily confused with the transverse rights of way. Being able to distinguish them from one another, therefore allowing the identification of relevant potentials of an inalienable right of way, whose owners have privatized the passage. The identification of state-owned fishing routes could allow their heritage enhancement. We therefore tried to locate these paths and understand their permanence, their mutations, and even their disappearance. In addition, we will analyze how these paths are a heritage that testifies to the evolution of the maritimity of the local populations. This article aims to produce an interdisciplinary reflection that combine historical and legal contributions with the analysis of spatial dynamics. We will focus on four areas in a diachronic way: Grand Fond, Saint-Gilles-les-Bains, l'Ermitage-les-Bains and la Saline-les-Bains. Knowledge of the territory and the evolution of its urbanization allows us to better understand the uses of the past, in order to be able to analyze the coastline of today more clearly.
