L’école : un lieu où tout est fait pour qu’on se comprenne ? Quelques réflexions sur des pratiques de classe observées en école primaire à Mayotte

Abstract : The purpose of this article is to report on the teaching tools adopted by trainee student teachers in the classroom to enable their pupils to start learning and improve their French proficiency in Mayotte, where French is the language of schooling. These pedagogical examples will be questioned by two researchers, one in Educational Sciences, the other in Anthropology. The intersection of these two perspectives will lead to the idea that in any educational situation, a better consideration of the linguistic, social, economic and cultural context and the establishment of a dialogue between teacher and pupils seems to be essential to enable the pupils to explain their activities. This dialogue can pass or rely on vernacular languages to enable pupils to enter into learning but also in a process of improvement of the French language proficiency.
