Littérature (jeunesse) : osez le théâtre contemporain !

Abstract : This article questions the place of contemporary theater at school and the existence of a modern, exacting form of theater despite of obsolete rendering of both text and dramatisation, which is still prevailing. It is designed for primary school teachers but it also concerns these who teach in junior and senior high-schools, together with all those who endeavour to make children and young people share their passion for the theatre. In order to analyze the place of theater meant for the young at school, and more generally speaking, the place of modern theater in school curriculum, we will first define the broad lines of modern theater (2nd half of the 19th c and early 21st c), and then we will analyze the representations of the theater in the vocational papers of the student-teachers at the Reunion IUFM in recent years. These representations will be contrasted with national and regional cultural realities, with the perspectives offered by school cultural policies and institutions, and with the Reunion IUFM's own activities
