La France et les autres pays industrialisés à l'épreuve du vieillissement. Un des grands défis du XXIe siècle

Abstract : The increase of life expectancy, added to a mixed reduction of fecundity, have caused, an ageing of the population in the developed countries during these last thirty years, a tendency that is to continue throughout the XXIst century. What are the consequences to be expected from this evolution in economic activity, employment, standards of living and social protection ? In what ways could it affect the social structures and new relationships that may appear, and, in a less expected field, politics. This essay aims to answer these questions, as we are aware of the weaknesses of such a production which tries to anticipate an uncertain future. The present essay is based on the French case.
