Les inégalités face à la maladie chronique : l’exemple du diabète

Abstract : Diabetes prevalence is increasing all over the world but with rising geographic disparities (up to 20% of adults in Reunion) mainly due to lifestyle changes and social determinants. Discrepancies broaden to access and quality of health care. Chronic diseases issues challenge both the individuals with the illness and its social implications, and the health professionals who struggle with the non-curative dimension of the disease. Health promotion strategies should go beyond screening and behaviour changes recommendations, and integrate environmental and societal causes of inequalities with implications at the community, institutional and public levels.
