La santé : de l'éducation à la pédagogie

Abstract : The present contribution examines the terminology used to designate Health and/or Therapeutic Education. This reflection rooted in the field of Educational Science will enable us to recognize notions which will bring about (this is the challenge we are facing) progress both in the field of research«on» as well as «for» Health Education. The objectives of Health Education are clear: to bring about a change in behaviour and in this way, a change in patients’ attitudes, inculcating a more positive outlook with regard to health. As it has been stated that Health Education is really a question ofteaching with reference to the given framework,we will be able to show to what extent the elements encompassing reflection in the area of education in general and in the school context in particular, play an integral role in Health Education. The holistic concept of the patient cannot be disregarded and envisages taking the patient’s socio-cultural environment into account. The importance of medical knowledge in taking care of the patient, even though it remains central, is not sufficient to engender the necessary changes in the patient’s behaviour and relationship to the self, changes that Health Education sets out to achieve.
