Abstract : During the Second World War, the island of Reunion promptly declared itself in favour of the Vichy regime. The principles of the National Revolution adjusted to the colonial way of life. Rather than a form of inertia in the face of a coercive regime, it amounted to an acceptance both by the colonial authorities and a part of Reunion’s society. The principle of national regeneration on the basis of Empire was reflected in all the speeches, producing forceful and highly instructive propaganda.
