Safety for real-time Ethernet in IEC 61508 and IEC 61784

Résumé

The real-time Ethernet in deterministic networks is far from being safe, it guaranteesperfect synchronization among devices, and meets the real-time requirements but not the safety ones. To ensure these requirements, we need to identify the errors in the digital communication. In order to add safety measures in the communication system, this paper describes an analysis of IEC 61508 and IEC 61784. Furthermore, we propose to implement a safety layer over Real-Time Ethernet (at the top of the application layer) in the embedded real-time systems.
