Abstract : Within the framework of the activity theory, this research attempts to relate a social network of work affinity to a virtual social network made up of the probation students’ exchanges provided by a mutually-shared work platform. Network density differs, and so do the indexes of centrality and proximity calculated by the Unicet 6 software of Borgatti, Everett and Freemans, and so does the chart structures representing the social networks. The results show that, though some students remain isolated in both types of networks, the virtual network allows them to considerably increase their integration and acquire a much more substantial social network. Conversely, and for reasons that remain to be accounted for, some of the students best integrated in the work affinity network do not appear in the virtual network.
